Return to planet Moscow
I have returned to Russia yet fatter than before I left having eaten lots of sausages and chips on the Austrian ski slope restaurants and having drunk lots of good German and Austrian beer. I do believe that lady spring may be near in Moscow, she has made the temperature a bit warmer and it's actually a bit lighter in the mornings now, as I lay in bed this morning and opened one eye on the new day from beneath my warm bed covers. I plan to start running before breakfast and to free my mind of this depression and gloom that is like a huge heavy blanket that covers me. I think early morning exercise will help my weight and my mind. Spring and lighter days are a good cure for the Moscow blues. People say Moscow is not Russia and I believe them, we plan to visit other parts of this huge country and I hope to be a convert to living here.
While I was away, I took my boy swimming for the first time in Austria, it was a wonderful experience and he liked it. He had two inflatable orange arm bands on each little arm and he seemed delighted to be in the water, I held his little body and he bobbed up and down in the warm pool water like a cork on the ocean. Things like that are golden moments in a fathers life, no matter how corny or soft that sounds to you. Ask any parent and they will tell you. I hope to find a pool in Moscow to teach him swimming.
Today is another day and we will go for a walk and brave the Moscow air and traffic. Back to reality and to planet Moscow with a hard cruel bump.

Just wait for the spring aroma in the metro when all the jackets come off!
ReplyDeleteNice the sweet spring smell of metro body odor !!!
ReplyDeleteDo not feel bad about your feelings towards Moscow. My daughter who has been working in Russia on and off for quite a few years(presently her 3rd year) came to the conclusion that she can survive Moscow only if she leaves it every 3-4 months to go back to civilization for a week or so. She is looking for another job.
ReplyDeleteAs a Brit married to a Russian I sometimes wonder if I should have married a Spanish or Italian woman !
ReplyDeleteThe endless cold, snow, language problems and boredom can be depressing.
Summer is easier and nicer than winter, although the intense heat and humidity can be tiring.
Yes I heard its like a freezer in the winter and like a sweaty armpit in the summer. We freeze or cook !!! My flat faces the sun from midday so the bedroom and living room will be nice and hot.....arghhhh !!!
